Tom retired with 38 years of experience as a successful classroom teacher, basketball coach, and school administrator. Since his retirement he has authored the Alberta Distance Learning Centre’s "Social Studies Preview/Review " program for grades 7 to 9, was a free-lance writer for a weekly newspaper, and has published four children’s books about a child with ADHD. "Sweaty Eyes" in 2014. "Fishing Lessons for Grandpa" in 2015, "BJ & the Green Monstah!" in 2016, and "To See a Deer" in 2018. Many of the humorous incidents in the stories are used to highlight the techniques to reduce classroom disruptions caused by a child with ADHD. In previous teacher conventions he used his experience in recognizing undetected students with ADHD and providing coping techniques that help both the student and their teachers. In 2017 he authored "Canada Becomes a Federation" as part of a series called "Canada: The First 150 Years". In 2018 he wrote an updated history book about the City of Leduc called Leduc: Then & Now.
