Our school became very interested in bringing curriculum outdoors last year and experimented with "Messy Math". This concept brings numeracy activities outdoors for children to engage in active learning opportunities that involve cross-curricular skills with a focus on numeracy skills specifically. This is a great way to bring realistic learning opportunities to students and is a great way to utilize outdoor classrooms or school yards. It also allows students to learn in alternate ways with various tools and gives them the opportunity to engage in inquiry-based and hands-on learning. This session will allow teachers to learn about messy math concepts and also give them ideas to take home and use in their own outdoor spaces. Come with an open mind, and leave with some new techniques, resources, and activities to use with students. We will also be linking FNMI learning components into the session as it is directly related to our educational practice and the new TQS.
