Estimation mysteries, where students have an opportunity to read clues and narrow their thinking, provide students with the opportunity for openly talking about math. In this session, you will participate in some open ended activities suitable for grades 1 - 8. Then I will show you how they are made. Disclaimer - some of what I will share in this session may not be truly original, but I am hoping that you will find the material as engaging as I do. Besides some previously made estimation mysteries that have been openly shared by a guru on this, I have also come up with some of my own that are directly related to some curricular outcomes in the middle school grades. Afterwards, you may be inspired to make some of these yourself , or have your students make them to challenge peers. My Google folder of resources (suitable for grades 1 through 8), will be shared at the end, so that you can add these to your own drive to use in the future. Hope to see you in the audience :)
